In tune with the weather, we saw a super storm of fantastic music in 2013. We’re going to be listening to these albums for years to come. I can’t bring myself to put these in order because they mean so many things; they’re not meant to be ranked.
Here are my crème de la crème of 2013:
Here is my pony in this. One of the highlights at ChristyFest II was this moment I captured on my cell phone. Olds Sleeper played an amazing set that happened to not include Carrie May. So I asked him to sing it for me outside. The song is about a photo of a mutual friend of ours. For a phone video, it came out so good! His newest album, Before and After the Here and Now has the best album art with Steve Martin when he was a stand-up comic. This is another album that is top shelf from start to finish.

I could play this entire album a hundred times and not tire of it. This video has the most beautiful homage to the city I love and shows the playground I grew up in.
You Can’t be Told by Valerie June
If “Mine Us 13” is not in your collection, you’re missing out on some pure blues delivered one man band style.
Life O’ Blues by Lone Wolf OMB
My NE band of blues, The Ten Foot Polecats came out with a new slammin blues album and the best video of the year:

You know how much I love Picasso Baby. From the boro of Biggie, Jay-Z is King, and as his tribute to Biggie, he brought Brooklyn with him. From where he came from to where he is. Goosebumps.
F.U.T.W. by Jay-Z (NSFW)
Whatever happened between him and Jay-Z was nuclear. Tell me this song isn’t a huge Hova dis. Love it.
I am a God by Kanye West
About a week before his album dropped, the new song, “Rap God” was released on youtube. He starts out by sampling Dougie Fresh and by the time it was over, I was flattened.
